Aspergers Children - Why Do They Get So Angry?

Aspergers is part of the Autism Spectrum Disorder group. Aspergers is frequently known as ‘high functioning’ Autism as the signs and symptoms are not as severe as Autism signs and symptoms and so an Aspergers kid can function quite a lot more than a full Autistic child.

Behavior problems like aggression, anger and depression are reasonably common in Aspergers children. The failure to fit in socially is a huge reason for these behaviors in Aspergers children and sometimes these behaviors can be very tough to deal with for the parents of these children.

The Features Of Aspergers

Aspergers is usually more common in males than in females and is usually not diagnosed until past the age of three. The signs and symptoms of Aspergers will be different from person to person and can sometimes can be tough to diagnose.

By and large, Aspergers children tend to be highly intelligent and can often hold a good discussion with an adult, however, their social and emotional competencies are lacking and they can find it very difficult to interact with children their own age.

The main features of Aspergers are:

* Highly intellectual performing well at school, particularly in topics such as Maths
* They tend to learn fast and with no trouble
* Don't cope very well when criticized and in fact will sometimes take criticism very personally
* Are sometimes reserved and will wait to be asked into a group rather than take the initiative to join a group
* Because of their shy and withdrawn nature they can often be the victims of harassment
* Are sometimes clumsy
* Can often be seen as odd or eccentric
* Can be quite emotional and extremely sensitive
* Find it tough to comprehend jokes or sarcasm and can sometimes take a joke very personally
Like to stick to specific rituals and routines.

Why Are Many Aspergers Children Angry?

Aspergers children often feel extremely uncomfortable in social situations as they find it quite difficult to intermingle with other children. They do have the need to socialize and be accepted just like any other person but they just lack the social skills to do so. Because of the need to be accepted and because they want to be social but can't, then they can become quite angry and annoyed. They don't really understand why they aren't being accepted and why they can't intermingle the way that other kids do and sometimes they will just feel like other kids just simply dislike them. They can become increasingly withdrawn and become quite angry inside.

The earlier that your child is diagnosed with Asbergers Syndrome the earlier you can start helping them to be taught social and communication abilities. They are capable of learning these skills but just need that extra help to do it. As these children often have a small self respect it is important to help them to develop a healthy self esteem. Promoting a good self confidence within your youngster and helping them to develop social and communication skills you can help prevent that child from developing that anger inside.

Another reason that anger develops in Aspergers children is if they are a child that prefers to have specific routines or rituals and those routines are broken or changed. Sometimes it can be difficult to keep to a routine 100% but it is important to attempt to provide them their routines as much as possible to evade an anger outburst.

Although most people would not think twice about it if their routine was changed, an Aspergers child can become quite irate and sometimes violent if their schedule is changed. An Aspergers child can be taught how to stay in control during times like these with some Cognitive Behavior Treatment.

Aspergers children can be quite annoyed little people and it is also frustrating for a parent to deal with these problems. These children appear completely normal and it can be easy to forget that they do infact have a disorder and when you are in public people do not realise that they have a disorder and will often just assume that they are a 'naughty' child. Dealing with these issues on a day to day basis can take it's toll on any parent. An early diagnosis of Aspergers is important so that you can start to teach your child the skills that they need and how to deal with the problems that make them irritated. If your child gets the right treatment then they can live a quite happy and fulfilling life.
